So Rachel Maddow takes Rep. Aaron Schock to task for his hypocrisy on the spending bill in Washington. What you have is a classic bit of television that you rarely see– A classy exchange where the facts are laid out on the table.
“You, in your district, I just read that you were at a community college touting a $350,000 green technology education program, talking about how great that was going to be for your district,” she said. “You voted against the bill that created that grant. That’s happening a lot with Republicans sort of taking credit for things that Democratic bills do and then Republicans simultaneously touting their votes against them and trashing them. That, I think, is a problem that needs to be resolved within your caucus. Because you seem like a very nice person but that is a very hypocritical stance to take.”
Rachel Maddow is the only journalist out there who is bright enough to hold interviewee’s accountable. She obviously does her homework, is well prepared, and not much gets by her. There is a reason most Republicans by pass her invitations since the scent of hypocrisy precedes them. Rachel’s acumen and performance is one of the best in the business
So Obama sat down with Diane Sawyer to talk about his first year in office:
“I’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president,” Obama told Sawyer.
“There’s a tendency in Washington to think that our job description, of elected officials, is to get reelected. That’s not our job description,” Obama said. “Our job description is to solve problems and to help people.”
All I can say; If President Obama does not focus on the economy, he will be a one term President…
Barbara Walters selected Michelle Obama as her most fascinating person of the year. The list also included Glenn Beck, Lady Gaga, Brett Favre, Michael Jackson’s children, Adam Lambert, Kate Gosselin, Tyler Perry, Jenny Sanford (The South Carolina’s Governor’s Wife) and Sarah Palin.
First lady Michelle Obama awaits the arrival of the Indian Prime Minister in the North Portico of the White House November 24, 2009 in Washington, DC. U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama hosted their first State Dinner for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur of India.
I ask this questions once again: Why are there so many people walking around without taking their medication?
Westboro Baptist Church, a hate group that travels around the country holding anti-gay rallies, protested outside the school attended by President Obama’s children on Monday morning.
The “church,” run by Fred Phelps and composed largely of his extensive family, is known for staging its events for maximum publicity and controversy. In the past, members have demonstrated outside troops’ funerals. Recently they have been targeting Jewish temples. Now they’re aiming their vitriol at Washington-area schools — including Sidwell Friends, where Malia and Sasha Obama are students.
A message on Westboro’s website refers to the Obama children as “satanic spawn” of a “murderous bastard.” Along with various schools, the church is also protesting outside the White House, the World War II memorial, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission field office.
Constitutional issues aside, why would any Christian direct their political anger at children and their schoolmates? These children are not really a part of the power structure or the debate. I ask the same question for those who protest soldiers funerals and innocent civilians– How lame can people be?
Did you know more than 2,000 trick-or-treaters knock on the White House door? Well the President and First Lady remained festive yesterday to celebrate with children and their families– Enjoy the photos or see more here
Mentoring matters, especially for young women: “I think that mentoring is such a critical part of the role I can play in this position. I see how little bits of exposure and big bits of exposure really change my girls significantly, and I want that for more girls around the country and the world.”
The real role models aren’t movie stars–they’re the people you know: “They were the people in my life. My mom, for sure. My dad. The teachers. For me, role-modeling was immediate, it was touchable…Children connect with who is in their lives, present and accounted for…That’s why we’re trying to encourage moms, teachers, fathers, to be that presence in their children’s lives, in their communities, because it really makes a difference.”
Media outlets posted this video saying that Michelle looked salty. I swear people always trying to start something. Thalia thanked her first for letting the president dance. I think President Obama was a little thrown off when she turned around and gave him the booty though
