Beyoncé and Jay-Z have welcomed their first child – a baby girl, it has been reported.
The couple have named their daughter Blue Ivy Carter, according to E! Online.
The 30-year-old singer gave birth to her daughter by scheduled caesarean section at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City last night and the website reports ‘multiple sources’ have confirmed the news. Congrats to the Carters.

Beyonce has been making major headlines since she announced that she was preggers at the MTV Video Music Awards in August. The response has varied from fans who are overjoyed that she is finally ‘pregnant’ to critics who have called her an ‘attention whore’ for announcing it at an award show as well as news outlets who believe that she is faking her pregnancy while a surrogate mother carries her child.
Although she hasn’t responded to those rumors yet, she does chat it up about her pregnancy (which spans as far back as Glastonbury in June), to the friendship she was able to develop with her husband Jay-z before they married and decided to start a family. Here are a few excerpts from next month’s Harper’s Bazaar Cover Story:
On revealing her pregnancy at the VMAs
I put a lot of thought into how I wanted to unveil it. It was important to me that I was able to do it myself. I was extremely nervous. It was the toughest red carpet I ever did. I didn’t want a crazy picture or gossip story to break the news, so I decided to say nothing and proudly show my baby bump. I felt it was more powerful to see the love and enthusiasm as opposed to saying anything.
On her marriage with husband Jay-Z
We have been together since I was 20 years old. We took our time and developed an unbreakable friendship before we got married. I admire his ability to inspire others. To me, Jay represents the American dream. Jay’s music has helped define our generation. All that he has overcome and worked to achieve gives millions hope that they can become whatever they want to be. I respect him so much; he is a great man and a great artist.
We focused three years on our marriage and found that it brought us an even stronger bond and connection. But like anything great and successful in your life, marriage takes hard work and sacrifice. It has to be something both you and your husband deeply want. The best thing about marriage is the amount of growth you have because you can no longer hide from your fears and insecurities. There’s someone right there calling you out on your flaws and building you up when you need the support. If you are with the right person, it brings out the best version of you.
On if her pregnancy has influenced a maternity collection
All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant woman. It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant. Flowy fabrics are always flattering says, but I still rock my stilettos. I’ve had so much fun with fashion over the months. I have been pregnant through every event I’ve done, from the Billboard Awards to Glastonbury.
On where she is right now in life
I am finally at the stage in my life where I am not so concerned with other people’s opinions about my life decisions. It is so liberating to really know what I want, what truly makes me happy, what I will not tolerate. I have learned that it is no one else’s job to take care of me but me
Beyonce was introduced by Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris who told the crowd,
“She is always pushing the envelope with her boundless energy and talent.
“She carries the torch lit by our father and it gives me great pleasure to introduce this woman.”
“Beyonce wants to stay busy. She plans to take part in a Michael Jackson tribute concert in October at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium via satellite link, and although she’ll take time off after the birth, she’s committed to her role in Clint Eastwood’s film ‘A Star Is Born’ and to launching a perfume next year.”
Beyonce Knowles dropped a bomb on photographers as she arrived at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. The singer showed up with her her hands on a big, healthy baby bump and told them that she’s pregnant. Her rep soon confirmed the pregnancy to the press.
Fans have long speculated on when Beyonce and husband Jay-Z would have a baby. Pregnancy rumors have followed the couple ever since they went public with their relationship, but the singer was impressively able to hide the big news until her reveal on Sunday.
So far we don’t have a due date for the baby, but this was the first time the singer’s pregnancy was apparent in photographs. Our congratulations go out to the pop music power couple. We can’t wait to see what the little one looks like.

It was great to be a wife and travel with [my husband]. I had to turn down great things. I did it for my sanity, my life, my relationships, my nephew, my husband, my sister and my friendships. I deserved to give myself time to focus on things besides performing, filming and recording.”
When you’re young —18 or 19 — you have the energy and drive. That’s the time to work as hard as you can. Now I’m a woman, and because I gave it my all, I can focus on my marriage. I can decide I want to have kids. I can be the mother I want to be and dedicate myself to my children.
