BET former Chairman Bob Johnson wants to create a “new” station that is centered for urban audiences:
Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television BET, has asked the Federal Communications Commission to approve plans for a new “urban” television network that would cater to a multicultural audience interested in health, lifestyle, education and other issues.
Johnson is joined in his application by Ion Media Networks, Inc., (the former PAX network)which describes itself as “a network television broadcasting company which owns and operates the largest broadcast television station group in the U.S., as measured by the number of television households ION’s stations serve.”
The new network is “not intended to compete with BET or TV One,” Johnson spokeswoman Traci Blunt said. Plans are open and no staff members have been hired, awaiting FCC approval. The network might even produce news programming, she said. The FCC is not expected to act until winter or early spring, after a period of public comment. The new company is to be called Urban Television LLC.
Please spare us; If this is anything like Black Exploitation Television, Mr. Johnson we have moved on. We don’t want or need your low budget project. THANKS.
Kanye West claims he is not concerned with album sales for his new effort “808’s and Heartbreaks,” because his creating “great art” trumps great sales (side eye).
Kanye expands on this point, “You know people sometimes don’t understand great art when they first hear it, but I am very confident in it, Whether it sells as much as the last one, or way more, I feel like I am just successful in doing something I felt really good about.”
This is BS. All artist are concerned about sales, especially someone as arrogant as Kanye; But fear not the album is amazing, even with the autotune.
Eva Longoria was in Puerto Rico attending the wedding of good friend and fellow actress Roselyn Sanchez (from Rush Hour). Eva arrived without Tony Parker, but accompanied by friends. She wore a zebra inspired dress made by Roberto Cavalli.
The tiny actress caused a bit of an uproar the day before when she was caught puffing away at a cancer stick (sigh). Nevertheless, as always you can catch Mrs. Longoria tonight on ABC’s Desperate Housewives. Photos Below:
Star Magazine is reporting that there is major trouble in paradise for Lohan and her girlfriend Samantha Ronson. Lindsay got some black friday sales, when she headed over to Chanel and XIV Karats Ltd solo.
The magazine also reports that Ronson boarded a plane alone as well, and this is odd giving how close the ladies are, and the holiday season.
I say they wanted to spend time with their respective families, big deal. The real issue is, where is Lohan getting all of this money. I know homegirl is almost broke…
Winona Ryder is under investigation after she allegedly lost $125,000 worth of jewelry. Ms. Ryder attended an event in Madrid for the Marie Claire Magazine party where she was photographed with the jewels. As you probably remember, in 2001 Ms. Ryder was guilty of stealing from high end retail stores in LA. She was given community service and three years probation (of course).
She allegedly got back to the hotel and handed the pieces over to the hotel staff, where they have not been seen since. She “lost” a Bulgari diamond jewelry worth 125 G’s’. The problem is the hotel staff says they have no surveillance footage showing her handing over the jewelry. Executives from Bulgari called the police and an investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, Ms. Ryder is in London where she is shooting the new Star Trek movie. Do you think she stole the jewels?
The New York Giants wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the right thigh on Friday night, FOXSports.com has learned, not long after being ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Redskins with a hamstring injury
He spent the night in the hospital and the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The team is still trying to gather further information on the incident. Several media reports Saturday indicated the shooting took place in a nightclub.
“Our primary concern is for Plaxico’s health and well-being, and given the circumstances, we are relieved to say he was released from a New York City hospital,” the team said in a statement.
NFL salaries are not guaranteed but the signing bonuses are. The Giants could let Burress walk , er, limp away at the end of the season.
This is absolutely fascinating and sad. Sebastian D’Souza, a photographer, caught one of the gunman who fired indiscriminately during the Mumbai rampage:
It is the photograph that has dominated the world’s front pages, casting an astonishing light on the fresh-faced killers who brought terror to the heart of India’s most vibrant city. Now it can be revealed how the astonishing picture came to be taken by a newspaper photographer who hid inside a train carriage as gunfire erupted all around him.
…
But what angered Mr D’Souza almost as much were the masses of armed police hiding in the area who simply refused to shoot back. “There were armed policemen hiding all around the station but none of them did anything,” he said. “At one point, I ran up to them and told them to use their weapons. I said, ‘Shoot them, they’re sitting ducks!’ but they just didn’t shoot back.”
This is so odd that the police did not fire back; I suppose this was such a shocking and extraordinary event that it must have caught the police off guard- Or maybe the Indian people are so peaceful that shooting back was not an option they thought they had?
This is an absolute tragedy. My Deepest condolences goes to the families of the victims. This nonsense must end.
